A superb Chinese marble dreamstone table screen.
The marble looking like mountains and rain.
The characters reading: Yun Shan Xia Guang - Cloud Mountain Misty Rain.
The marble frame and lower stand being reticulated Macassar Ebony.
The stand with a central Shou character surrounded by scrolling curlicues and five bats.
A separate supporting base stand under.

This impressive auspicious table screen is an outstanding example of Chinese craftsmanship at its finest, finely carved, beautifully jointed, extremely pleasing to the eye.

A grouping of five bats is called Wu Fu, or the Five Blessings. In the Book of Documents.
The meaning of five blessings are health (康寧), wealth (富), long life (壽), Love of virtue (yu hao te 攸好德) and peaceful death (考終命) accordingly.

The Shou character surrounded by the five bats on this screen form the rebus of "Wu Fu Peng Shou" (五褔捧壽) which literally imply Blessings of Longevity.

Formerly the property of a Japanese collector, purchased in Shanghai in the early 1970's.
