Wasp in Pear

ANTIQUE JAPANESE NETSUKE

A superb rare ivory netsuke of a wasp in a rotting fruit pear. This is a model with many variations, normally carved in wood by a small number of artists. It is extremely rare to see it carved in ivory ( ivory material being more expensive than boxwood) and was likely copied from a wood example, as per the " Similar" all wood, noted below.
