Mermaid & Octopus
ANTIQUE JAPANESE NETSUKE
A magnificent slightly erotic ivory study of a well endowed mermaid being taken advantage off by a licentious octopus, which, judging by her placed hands she appears to be enjoying. Superbly carved and detailed.
Octopus in Japanese Art are often associated with eroticism and sexual fantasies, a good example being: The "Dream of the Fisherman's Wife" a print by Hokusai portraying a young ama diver entwined sexually with a pair of octopuses.
