Teppo Matchlock
ANTIQUE JAPANESE NETSUKE
TEPPO NETSUKE - MATCHLOCK MEIJI PERIOD 1868 to 1912.
An outstanding Meiji Period Teppo Netsuke (Sashi ) made from wood, brass, iron, replicating a matchlock gun.
Silver metal house crest (Kamon) inlay on barrel.
The upper lever recessed where a slow burning fuse would be.
The covered pan tray that opens to allow to the lit fuse contact with the gunpowder.
Cast iron barrel inlaid at the front with silver metal in the shape of a diamond. The trigger when pulled back releases the fuse arm.
Teppo Netsuke were not made to be used as a miniature gun, the barrel is not bored all the way.
The indent in the flash pan is not through to the barrel.
The teppo netsuke was for decorative purposes only.
