Mongolian Archer

ANTIQUE JAPANESE NETSUKE

A superb antique boxwood netsuke of a Mongolian Bowman.

The stately figure is holding a bow in his left hand, an arrow in his right hand, a dragon shaped quiver filled with arrows on his back.

Wearing a cloak falling in folds decorated with cloud patterns .

The sleeves are pushed up to reveal arms armoured in rerebrace and manifer.

The clothing includes a skin slung around his shoulders and hip guard at his back.

His face looks out from under a large hat with a wide decorated rim.
Narrowed eyes, a mouth that curls down over an unkempt tripartite beard.

Formerly the property of a Japanese collector.
