Usubata Meiji
A Magnificent Japanese Masterpiece
Late Meiji Period (1868-1912)
A superb copper bronze Usubata used for Ikebana and associated with the Tea Ceremony, dating to late Meiji Period.
The top section bordered on the outside with scrolling above a band of rolling waves.
The body having a lobed cartouche on opposite sides.
Cast in high relief, Ashikaga Takauji Shogun seated under a branching pine playing the sho.
The reverse a luxuriant pine branch under a full moon. Stylised dragon handles. The stand with three feet, decorated with chrysanthemum buds and leafage.
