Yoshisada Censer
A Magnificent Masterpiece.
A vintage Japanese Meiji style Censer of copper bronze utilising the lost wax casting process.
The front, portraying Nitta Yoshisada casting his sword into the surf and praying to Ryūjin, the God of the Sea to part the waves at Kamakura allowing him to besiege and capture it from the Hojo clan in 1333.
The reverse, two birds perched on the top of a Tori, a branching pine tree behind.
Elephant head handles, Buddhist symbols set against a textured ground.
Signed by the famous Master Artist Murata Hiroshi born Showa 11 (1936)
Acquired in Japan @ 41 years ago.
