A Rare Subject Ivory Brush Pot
Set within elongated lobed panels on either side are scenes from the pond, superbly carved in high relief.
Tranquil vistas of lotus leaves of varying sizes, bulrushes, budding and blossoming lotus flowers. Mandarin ducks.
The panels separated by rockery, ferns, water grasses, swimming fish.
The lower section carved around with continuous scrolling.
Reference: A Chinese ivory brushpot dating to the end of the 19 th century.
The vast majority of ivory brush pots portray scenes of Scholars / Landscapes.
I have not been able to locate another ivory brushpot bearing scenes of the Lotus Pond such as this.
This magnificent brush pot would appear to be rare.
An impressive addition to the collector of fine Chinese art and ivory.
Similar size ivory brush pots of the same period have been sold by the major auction houses for up to GBP 22,500 (A$43,600).

Condition: Excellent, there is no loss, no damage, no separation. A fine hairline on the base under as seen in the image. A fine aged surface hairline on the inside .
