REPUBLIC PERIOD (1912 to 1949)

A magnificent rare puce-enamel Falangcai 'Dragon' Tianquiping shaped vase.


The whole decorated with Nine Dragons exquisitely painted in enamels of puce with gold highlights, among a variety of cloud formations, sacred flames, and flaming pearls, all in the finest of details.
Set against a snow white ground.
Beneath are rolling curling waves with foaming tips.

This vase belongs to the rarest category of porcelain, with its extraordinary nine dragon design in a deep puce enamel. Its square blue-enamelled Qianlong period reign mark, inscribed over the glaze, identifies it as Falangcai (‘foreign enamels’).
The vase having the same appearance and quality as those produced in the Imperial Workshops of the Imperial Palace, 造 辦 處 Zaobanchu, although this masterpiece was actually made in the Republic Period (1912 to 1949) .

Formerly the property of a Japanese Collector.
