A superb large Cinnabar lacquer vase that dates to 1950 @ 74 years old.
A portrayal of pavilions, mountain water scenes
The neck bearing reversed ruyi heads, curling tendrils blossoms.
The shoulders with scrolling tendrils, interspersed with four flowers.
Two large panels on opposing sides with different scenes of pavilion, rockery, pine branches, foliage, and more.
The foot carved with inverted plantain leaves above scrolling tendrils and partially visible Indian lotus flower blooms
The interior and under the foot enamelled blue.

The red /cinnabar colour in lacquer is derived from mercury sulfide a bright red colour which is used to dye the lacquer. Red / cinnabar lacquers (mercury sulfide) darkens over time with exposure to light.
It takes approximately 17 coats of lacquer to produce a depth of 1mm of lacquer.
