Meiping Vase Red / Cinnabar Lacquer
The actual colour of the vase is a very attractive darkish red wine colour looks lighter in the images.
A vintage 1960's red / cinnabar lacquer vase, the shape known as Meiping with fine detailed carving.
The shoulders of the vase carved with curling tendrils emanating from a lotus blossom.
Panels of flowering and budding peonies, leafage, rockery, peonies, set against a cross hatch background, bordered by scrolling tendrils.
Condition: This superb vase is in excellent condition.

The red /cinnabar colour in lacquer is derived from mercury sulfide a bright red colour which is used to dye the lacquer. Red / cinnabar lacquers (mercury sulfide) darkens over time with exposure to light.
It takes approximately 17 coats of lacquer to produce a depth of 1mm of lacquer.
