Antique Scroll Pot of Epic Proportion
Originally this Scroll Pot was one of a pair. The other was sold some years ago.
A Large cinnabar / red lacquer circular scroll pot, colour looks far better and more impressive in real life. It has a beautiful lustre to the lacquer and deep aged patina.
Carved in High Relief, a continuous scene continuous around.
A five character title.
In the foreground, a scholar riding a horse across a wood bridge followed by his attendant carrying his qin. Under the bridge, flowing water.
Rock formations with gnarled trees visible on either side.
A fisherman standing to the rear of his sampan with net cast in the water.
In the distance two junks sailing.
The scene with spectacular mountain ranges, clouds, trees , pavilion, at the side.
To the right of the attendant pine and maple trees set among rocks against a continuous background scene of towering mountains carved in the style reminiscent of the Tang dynasty artist Dong Yuan.

Condition: The carved cinnabar / red lacquer is in Excellent Condition. NO damage or deterioration.
The black lacquer on the inside of the scroll pot and to the base has crack / shrinkage / separation marks due to aging.
