Baluster Jars

A pair of large Cinnabar lacquer baluster jars with covers.

The short neck bearing a Chinese keylock design. The high wide shoulders with scrolling tendrils, four half Indian lotus blossoms visible rising above two large panels on opposing sides, framed by etched leaves and curling tendrils. The panels separated by a design of leaf form and scrolling, centred with a large Indian lotus flower.
Each jar displaying a panel portraying peony blooms, craggy rockery formations on a diaper ground. The other with flowering chrysanthemums, buds, leafage and rock outcrops set against a diaper ground.
Wending their way around the slightly splayed foot, meandering curling lotus tendrils, four partial lotus flowers,.
The cover centred with a lotus flower knop, abounded with stylised lappets. Curling lotus tendrils, half lotus blooms, the rim with keylock design.

The insides lacquered black. The base lacquered black with six character apocryphal Ming Dynasty period mark.
