The Blossom Box
A SUPERB FALANGCAI 珐琅彩 ENAMEL BLOSSOM BOX WITH COVER
QING PERIOD 1644 to 1911
The box of rectangular form with matching cover.
The cover, budding blossoming peonies in varying shades of puce tinged with pale yellow and white on branching stems, bearing lush variegated leafage.
Rock formation on the grassy knoll, asters growing, two butterfly's, all set within a central medallion drawn in blue and white with curling ends.
The surrounding outer border bearing different flowers in a range of colours abounded by green scrolling curlicues against a black ground.
On opposite sides a narrow medallion with the same themes.
The ends decorated with a stylised Chinese form.
The box, decorated with similar medallions on opposites sides, the front with puce and white peonies, lemon yellow iris, blue and yellow asters, rock formation, leafage.
The reverse with lingzhi in colours of camel brown and grey, peonies in puce and white, blue and yellow asters, leafage, a butterfly.
The medallions set against a black background bearing a multitude of blossoming flowers in a spectacular range of colours and shades of blue, aqua, mauve, yellow, orange, green curling tendrils around.
Stylised forms at each end in blue and white.
The inside enamelled white as is the base, which bears a cobalt blue Qianlong Period seal mark.
Formerly the property of a Japanese collector.
