Qing Censer
A MAGNIFICENT CHINESE IMPERIAL STYLE CLOISONNE ENAMEL AND GILT-BRONZE CENSER QIANLONG PERIOD MARK (1736 - 1795)
Comprising four sections: the lowest being the brazier carried by three gilt-bronze elephant-head supports, gaily caparisoned in 'jeweled' garlands, the sides decorated in enamel with lotus scrolls .
An enamelled tray bearing scrolling and blossoms separating the brazier from the upper section of the censer.
The lower half of this section containing six panels each with a coiled dragon.
Above them three panels each carrying two playful Shishi, all in reticulated gilt bronze.
The panels separated with stylised blossoms and scrolling.
A phoenix standing on the cover, under are three enamelled ruyi heads separated by three gilt bronze dragons in clouds.
This censer is an outstanding Masterpiece.
The tradition of using three elephant heads as the feet of imperial bronze censers and braziers at the Beijing Palace can be traced back at least as far as the Xuande reign (AD 1426 - 35)
