Peony Bowl
A superb antique large deep cloisonné bowl, the style colour quality and weight date this to early 20th century circa 1900 to 1925.
The body of the bowl of solid heavy brass.
Set against a vibrant blue background peony flowers, plum blossoms, buds, leafage, rockery bird and butterfly in a range of beautiful colours.
An indication of good cloisonné is the actual weight of the item, the heavier it is the better quality it is.
Cloisonne in the latter half of the 20th century did not use heavy brass or bronze, instead using a cheap metal that was dipped in a brass colour which usually rubs off after some years, those items are also much lighter.
