An outstanding tactile well carved in high relief cylindrical brush pot standing on three feet. Children and their pet dog, indulging in various form of play, clashing cymbals, blowing a trumpet, beating drums and gongs, playing tag, and more.
Bamboo trunks and leafage, magnificent rocky outcrops, a large gnarled pine with overhanging branches.
Calligraphy and seal marks.
The “Children at play” or “Children playing” motif (婴戏图 / 婴戏) is a metaphor which alludes to continuing the family line, marital blessings and lots of kids.
Formerly the property of a Japanese collector - acquired over 40 years ago.
